So as part of the nomination, I now have some questions to answer…okay here we go!
(1) Why did you start blogging?

I am fairly certain I was born a writer. For as long as I can remember I have been journaling and writing. In fact, one of the reasons I chose the law as my profession was because of the legal writing. Writing is my passion, it’s my therapy… my release.
To be perfectly honest with you I didn’t intend to share my weight loss story when I started.  I was flat out convinced there was no way I would be able to lose my weight, so why tell people about my failure?!?!
But this diet was unlike anything I had ever done before. It turned everything I knew about dieting on its head. Everyday I learned something new…I learned about sugar, I learned about low carb/high fat diets. I am pretty sure that if you saw me the first few months of my diet I had my mouth opened wide with a shocked look on my face. I couldn’t believe what I was finding out about the diet industry.
Wait a minute, fat is not making me fat? Wait, I don’t have to eat food that tastes like cardboard in order to lose weight? Why didn’t anyone ever tell me that it was carbs and sugar that I should have been counting all along !?!
It makes perfect sense to me now. Why would an industry making their money helping people lose weight want to actually help people lose weight?? I mean if we are successful that puts them out of commission. So no wonder the crap diet food marketed to us to be “the cure” actually hurts our progress instead of helping us achieve our goals.
I know it sounds funny but I felt really hurt, like I had been cheated and lied to my whole life. It sparked that little voice inside me that hates to see people being treated unfairly. I wanted the whole world to know what I was learning.
So, yes I started Recovering Carbie for the simple reason that I was just plain pissed off that I spent over 30 years miserably dieting unsuccessfully and I didn’t have to. I was angry that the diet industry had stacked the deck so it was impossible to succeed. I knew I was only one voice, but I was determined to use it. I started telling everyone who would listen to me about my journey. Family, friends, strangers in stores…I wanted to expose all the lies the diet industry put out there. “We’re doing it wrong!!!” I wanted to shout from the highest roof tops!
So I may have started from a place of anger, but what happened next was amazing. I started sharing my story and I got an overwhelming amount of support. So many people shared a similar past to me. So many Moms were out there so convinced they had no time to get healthy. So many people out there thought of their weight as a death sentence they couldn’t appeal.  So many people out there couldn’t stand eating cardboard food anymore. So many people wanted to find their health but had no clue how to do that.  These people started sending me their stories, their successes, their questions.
These people started calling me an inspiration, when in reality they were really inspiring me.  Inspiring me to change my focus from bashing the diet industry to helping all the people like my old self find their way like I did.  Now today I blog here, and on Facebook, and my community continues to grow. I truly believe that true success is found when we build each other up. Dieting is one of the loneliest roads to walk. I want to make sure no one going through this feels alone.

2. What kind of blog do you have?

Recovering Carbie is my story, plain and simple. It’s my journey of finding my health. It’s the story of a busy working Mom of three who set out without a road map to try and navigate the crazy world of diets! It’s the story of a woman who struggled with weight her whole life and finally has found a way to deal with it.

In July of 2016 I topped the scales at 309 pounds.  Now here I am 125 pounds lighter, 10 sizes smaller.

I share my story, my ups and downs, my twists and turns, my tips and suggestions, my dark times, my happy times, my favorite recipes, my thoughts, my workouts. It’s simply a place designed to show you that not only is it completely possible to do this, it’s completely DOABLE. It’s completely maintainable. I blog through here, Facebook, Instagram, and I am also a contributor on Her View From Home.

3. Where is your favorite place in the world, that you have been?

Ooh, tough question. My absolute favorite place in the world is Austin, Texas. I love that city. The vibe, the people, the food, the history, the art, the “weird”.  I love it all. My brother and his family live there so it also is home to some of my favorite people!
4. If you could go anywhere, where would you choose?

Hawaii and Florence, Italy. I’ll get there someday.
5. If money wasn’t an issue, would you still blog?

Money is definitely not an issue with my blog. I receive no compensation from the products I recommend and the tips I give.  This is my hobby, my passion, my mission and as long as I still have people to inspire, I’m going to keep going! I’m like the Green Eggs and Ham book…I’d blog here and there, I’d blog anywhere!

So there you go! That’s me in a nut shell! That’s the world of Recovering Carbie! Thanks for stopping by.
